The Kitty cat dance is a minor Internet phenomenon. It is a Flash-based video created by Steve Ibsen, a 19-year-o
ld student living in Seattle, Washington and attending the University of Washington at Seattle as a journalism major.
The Kitty cat dance consists of various pictures of Steve Ibsen's cat, Kayla,
animated and set to his original music and lyrics. It was published on Ibsen's website, G-shack.com, which contains a number of his short films, art, and other
creations. It has popped up on dozens of other websites and blogs and, according to G-shack, Japanese MTV, though this might have been posted in jest.
Ibsen says he was inspired to create the Kitty cat dance when he was playing his guitar in his room one day, and Kayla the cat began dancing to the music.
The film has been parodied and posted on a variety of websites. Its lyrics have
appeared in many signature files and at Wikiquote. The most memetically spread line is, "Cat, I'm a kitty-cat, and I dance, dance, dance, and I dance, dance, dance."
