So, who the heck is Gil Davis, anyway.  If you do a search on the net, you'll find he's a lawyer, a sports player of some sort...let's see...there's so many of 'em that it's hard to separate one from the other.  But this Gil is not any of those.  This Gil (as a career) would be considered to be in sales and management.

Here are a few stats:

Birthdate: July 8, 1954
Birthsign (if you're into that): Cancer
Height: 6'3"
Weight: About 350 give or take. Since I'm so tall with such a large build, it's very difficult for people to determine my true weight. My scale doesn't lie, though :-)
Sexual Preference: Hetro (only)

Been married twice, once to Lettie from 1977 to 1979 and to Kathy from 1984 to 1995.

Currently single.

Favorite Music: Late 50's, 60's, 70's and some 80's rock. Also appreciate some country from 50's to now, but know very few of the songs.  I listen to Perry Como, Dean Martin, Andy Williams type music when the mood strikes, which is rare.  Even like 40's swing music...you know, as long as it has a good beat and is actual music, I'll probably like it

Religion: None, but am tolerant of almost anything except if a person goes to extremes.  I do listen to the nighttime talk show, Coast to Coast AM, when I stay up late.  I find stories of near-death experiences fascinating.  I occasionally get feelings of deja-vu, not saying that I'm reincarnated, but I'm sure a lot of people have those feelings, as well.  I'm pretty much open to any reasonable explanation on the subject (not that I'll accept it, of course :-)

Favorite foods: I'm a total fruitaholic.  I like cantaloupe, especially.  Ripe apples, pears, citrus, tomatoes (yes, they're a fruit) are a real treat.  I am an omnivore, so vegetarians, watch out!  Tend to lean a bit toward fowl, but a good lean steak is not out of the question.  I've eaten deer, goat, rabbit and several other types of meat that aren't normally in the American diet, as well as some other unusual foods that I can't remember right now (how about grape leaves...yep, the Middle-Easterners use those in certain prepared dishes)

Least favorite and disliked foods: OLIVES!, sour cream, lima beans, most leafy greens except for collard and spinach, butterscotch anything, caramel, most candy bars (most are too sweet or have caramel in them), oysters on the half-shell <ugh!>, beets, and there are probably more that I can't think of right now, but those are at the top of my list. I can watch a person eat those items and not get grossed out, though.

Gil's Extremely Abridged Work History

For most of my career, I've done sales in one form or another.  I spent 3 months shy of 15 years at Radio Shack as either a sales rep, computer specialist, assistant manager, or manager, mostly in Phoenix, but also worked in San Diego and Denver.  I've worked at places like 7-11, Circle K, and Stop 'n Go as anything from a sales clerk to a trainer for about 3 1/2 years of my life.  It was a good stopgap and great experience for a customer service person.  Also taught me some patience with people.  I got good at cleaning post-mix soda machines and learned to operate a floor buffer, too.  See, you can't tell me that nothing good comes from these jobs.  I've also done some freelance work for a print shop making resumes, doctoring photos, creating print ads (one of my clients was a local Southwestern Bell outlet in Rockingham, NC).  I've also done DJ work, I was a board-op and part-time on-air talent at a now-defunct station in San Diego.  I worked for them 1989 and also co-hosted a late-night weekend show called Wild Weekend!, with my friend, Jay Barrymore, playing oldies, oddies, and some of the most silly contests that we could devise!  We also had a short-lived radio program called Grassroots, a show that played a lot of Cajun and other sorts of ethnic music.  Very professional format; it would have made people like Dick Clark proud (or possibly embarrassed).  Because of the format of the station, however, that show was not meant to succeed.  But, being in radio was a lot of fun.  It's been suggested that I get back into it, but it really doesn't pay enough to be a serious career for most people.  I did a number of live DJ shows and a couple of live remotes. Not a lot of 'em, but I did have a great time with those, as well.  When Jay and I did a live show, he'd play the music and I would do the announcements. Worked out well.  That was in the days of me owning all sorts of mixers, amps, speakers, mics, and music.  I now have very little of that stuff left. Guess I got into computers and lost interest in the DJ thing. I do occasionally put on a music show for friends on the Internet on occasion. Nothing commercial, though. I do occasional voice-overs and liners for radio and tv stations. I was the voice of Spirit FM in Dublin, Ireland for a while. All for free. Check out www.radiodaddy.com to find and hear some of the work I did (you may have to search for DukeCityMan or Gil Davis there). Some of the VOs were really good.

I managed to screw up my back in 1995 (the same year as my divorce from my second wife, also the year my mom died) and it took me out of my major source of income; sales manager at Radio Shack. But, things like that happen and you have to make the most of it. I try always to be optimistic, however, and never think that my world is coming to an end in the face of disaster. I just look for ways out of situation. As was the case here.

I'm now an ATM technician (very) part-time and make a small second income doing that, along with a monthly disability check (don't wish you were in my place, it's much better to be able to work full-time and get the money that it brings in). I figure that I'll lose enough weight, the docs will replace the two discs in my back that are screwed up, then I'll be back in the job market. It would be nice.
