Rememeber? Page 2

I have a feeling that we're all going to remember a lot more things that were around when we were kids, so here starts another "Remember" page. I encourage you to email me with things that you can remember. Though this next submission goes back to a point before my childhood memories began, I still know about this and thought it would be fascinating to include it. And thanks in advance for all of your submissions!

ICE BOXES! I can actually remember when the Union Ice Company delivery man brought 25 lb blocks of ice into our house for our solid oak, zinc-lined "ice box" cooler (pre-refrigerator). Us kids used to climb up onto the back of the big ice truck, lift the heavy leather flap and steal chunks and slivers of ice while the delivery man was in the house (a great treat on a hot Los Angeles summer day).

I also remember when "oleo margarine" looked like a block of lard and came with a little plastic capsule of yellow dye to mix in so that it sort of looked like butter. My mom said that the dairy farmers had gotten a law passed that said "margarine" couldn't be sold that "looked" like real butter.

Let's see if any of you remember any of these little kid's songs:

Comet, it makes your teeth turn green.
Comet, it's made from gasoline.
Comet, will make you vomit.
So eat some Comet and vomit today!"

"The Addams Family started,
When Uncle Fester farted,
They all became retarded, (They all came out retarded,)
The Addams Family!"

---------------------------------------------------

It's Howdy Doody time
It isn't worth a dime
So turn to Channel Nine
And let's watch Frankenstein ...

---------------------------------------------------

On top of Old Smokey
All covered with dirt
I shot my poor teacher
When somebody burped

I shot her with pleasure
I shot her with pride
I couldn't have missed her
She's forty foot wide

I went to her funeral
I went to her grave
When no one was looking
I threw a grenade

It blew up the village
It blew up the land
And all that was left was
Her forty foot can.
